Markings

In this section we will attempt to illustrate and translate the markings found on the North Korean Type-63 SKS Carbine.

Receiver Cover
The markings on the receiver cover are:

식 -which translates to expression or form (Type, or Type-63)

Rear Sight Leaf
The markings on the sight are:

고 -the literal translation is "and", but has an alternate translation of high or height

Serial prefixes and suffixes
We will be going all out with the proper characters from the Chosŏn'gŭl (North Korean) / Hangul (South Korean) alphabet.  Examples of this alphabet are shown here.  Please note that there are varying styles of certain letters, especially the "Ch'iut / Chieut" (ㅊ) character, yet they are the same letter/character even though modern times have standardized and stylized things to look a bit differently than they did in 1963:

As an example, the rifle pictured on the right will have the prefix letters for Riul and Chiut,  and the suffix letter for Piup.
